Transport Laberge workers in Montreal voted to accept their first contract on Oct. 2, voting 98 per cent in support of the deal.

In the first year of the contract, workers will receive wage increases ranging from 1.6 per cent to 7.29 per cent, followed by annual increases ranging from the cost of living to an additional 0.5 per cent for the last year. The workers haven’t had an increase for more than five years, according to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).

Other improvements include an increase to overtime pay, a 10-per-cent increase in the standby rate, an increase in the meal premiums, an increase to the number of sick days, an increase on mileage retroactive to Aug. 1, 2018, the introduction of the four-day week, a bonus after a pre-set mileage, an increase in mileage after the third year, increases toward the purchase of equipment and a signing bonus, says the union.
