The University of Western Ontario Faculty Association (UWOFA) librarian and archivist membership rejected the tentative collective agreement on Oct. 22 that was reached with the university administration on Oct. 7.

In a vote, 74 per cent of the members of the bargaining unit voted to reject the agreement, says the union.

The employees rejected the deal amid concerns that it did not address the serious erosion of librarian and archivist complement as their numbers have fallen by more than 20 per cent in the past 10 years, says UWOFA.

Members also believe that a three-year deal would allow them to come back to the table after the wage restraints contained in the proposed Bill 124 has ended, says UWOFA.

The bargaining unit remains in a legal strike position, says the union.
