Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2022. Ratified in June 2021. Signed on Oct. 25, 2021.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Jan. 1, 2020: 1%

Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 1%

Effective Jan. 1, 2022: 1%
Shift premium: $0.35 per hour where employee is required to work from Friday 11 p.m. and Sunday 11 p.m. $1 per hour for employees assigned responsibility of supervisor for 1 full shift or more. $0.30 per hour for employees required to rotate over 2 or more shifts, where majority of hours are worked between 3 p.m. on 1 day and 7 a.m. on next day.

Paid holidays: 12 days including 2 float days. All employees receive Christmas or New Year’s off on rotating basis.

Vacations with pay: 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 3 years, 4 weeks after 8 years, 5 weeks after 17 years, 6 weeks after 22 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for hours worked more than 7.5 in 1 day or more than 75 in 2-week period and all hours on statutory holidays.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for standard hospital coverage and drugs up to $2,500 per insured person per year.

Dental: Employer pays 75% of premiums, employees pays 25% of premiums for full-time employees and 50% of premiums, employees pays 50% of premiums for part-time employees for 70/30 co-payment of #9 plan with 9-month recall, 1-year lag on ODA fee guide and $1,500 maximum per insured person per year.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $325 per 24 months. Effective Jan. 1, 2022: $345 every 24 months.

Paramedical: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $300 annually.

Sick leave: 22.5 hours upon completion of 900 hours of work, then 7.5 hours for each 152.5 hours worked, up to 18 days.

AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $25,000.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $25,000.

Pension: Employer deducts 3% of wages from each employee and matches those contributions (4% for RNs and RPNs) to Labourers’ Pension Fund of Central and Eastern Canada (LPF).

Bereavement leave: 5 paid days for death of spouse, parent, child. 3 paid days for death of sibling, sibling-in-law, parent-in-law, child-in-law, grandparent, spouse’s grandparent, grandchild. Additional unpaid leave may be given if travel is necessary. 1 day may be deferred for delayed interment. 1 paid day for death of aunt or uncle.

Seniority – recall rights: 24 months for layoffs or absence from work longer than 24 months due to illness accident or WSIB where there is no reasonable likelihood of employee returning to work in near future.

Call-in pay: Minimum 3 hours at time and one-half for call-back after leaving work.

Probationary period: 450 hours in period of no longer than 6 months. May be extended up to 375 hours (50 shifts).

Discipline: Sunset clause is 12 months for letter of reprimand, suspension or other sanction; 24 months for third-party interactions. Any leave of absence longer than 30 calendar days will not contribute to 12- or 24-month period.

Uniforms/clothing: $0.07 per hour for all hours worked (not paid) to employees who are required to wear uniform (upon completion of probation).

Editor’s notes: Benefits substitution: Upon completion of probation, permanent part-time and full-time employees may exercise 1-time option to receive $0.65 per hour in lieu of benefits. These employees accumulate sick leave of 7.5 hours for each 152.5 hours worked up to 105 hours and receive $10,000 life insurance coverage. Part-time employees who are regularly scheduled for less than 52.5 hours biweekly will be paid $0.69 per hour in lieu of health and sick leave benefits.
