Workers at Canadian Linen & Uniform Service in Ontario achieve wage, pension gains

Signing bonus, eye care, show allowance increase

United Food and Commercial Workers Canada (UFCW) Local 1006A members working at Canadian Linen and Uniform Service in Vaughan, Ont., achieved increases to wages, pensions and benefits in the latest contract signed May 6.

The deal runs from Jan. 1, 2017, to Dec. 31, 2020, and covers approximately 180 members.

Highlights of the gains achieved include:

  • Wage increases of 1.5 per cent, 1.5 per cent, two per cent, and two per cent in each year of the agreement, and a $200 signing bonus on ratification
  • Hours paid for statutory holidays will be included in overtime pay
  • Seniority will continue to be accumulated for those away from work because of illness
  • Eye care coverage increases from $150 to $200
  • Increases to health and welfare benefits
  • An increase in the employer contribution to the employee pension plan
  • The shoe allowance will increase from $125 to $150
