Youth centre workers join CUPE

Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) local 339 recently welcomed 16 youth centre workers to its ranks.

The employees — who work for the City of Nelson, B.C. — voted July 22 to join, according to the union.

“(The workers) provide an indispensable service to youth in our community and we look forward to working with the City of Nelson on their behalf, ” said president Mike Stefiuk.

CUPE 339 also represents 80 public workers, who work in parks, public works, bylaws, finance and water in Nelson, as well as 14 library workers.
