Cites colleague who lost family in downed Ukrainian flight 752
Michael McCain, CEO of Maple Leaf Foods, has expressed anger at U.S. actions overseas on his company’s Twitter feed.
Referring to the “needless, irresponsible series of events in Iran” by “U.S. government leaders unconstrained by checks/balance,” McCain cites a “narcissist in Washington” who “tears world accomplishments apart; destabilizes region.”
“The collateral damage of this irresponsible, dangerous, ill-conceived behaviour? 63 Canadians needlessly lost their lives in the crossfire, including the family of one of my MLF colleagues (his wife + 11-year-old son)!” says McCain, referring to the downed Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752.
“We are mourning and I am livid,” said McCain. “I am very angry, and time isn’t making me less angry.”
McCain also says that “taking out” a “despicable military” terrorist leader does not mean a thing as “there are a hundred like him, standing next in line.” The comment alludes to the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani, who died in a U.S. airstrike on Jan. 3.
On Jan. 7, Iranian rockets struck two bases housing U.S. forces in Iraq in retaliation for Soleimani's death. Iran later said it mistakenly shot down a Ukrainian passenger jet the next day.
