The Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of Canada (CPHR Canada) and the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) have signed a mutual recognition agreement meant to advance the HR profession in North America.

CPHR members in good standing can receive the SHRM designation while members in good standing having the SHRM CP (Certified Professional) and SHRM SCP (Senior Certified Professional) designation can receive the CPHR designation by following an agreed-to pathway.

“These partnerships are exceptional alignments for CPHR Canada,” said Anthony Ariganello, CEO of CPHR Canada. “Globalization is having tremendous impacts on jobs, workplaces and economies of scale all over the world. It’s more important than ever that the human resources profession creates these international alliances to help members from each other’s country get certified, if they so choose. Members can be recognized as internationally qualified, which then helps position our members to better serve employers and employees.”

SHRM is excited to partner with Canada in offering mutual recognition of the professional HR certifications, said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., CEO and president of SHRM.

“The strategic importance of the HR profession increases continuously, and professional certification is critical in recognizing the competence of HR professionals who lead the way in defining the workplace of the future. This is a global phenomenon, which demands a global perspective. SHRM is proud to be leading the way with CPHR Canada.”

SHRM represents 295,000 members in more than 165 countries while CPHR Canada represents 27,000 members across nine provinces and three territories in Canada.
