New positions, wage gains in new deal: UFCW
United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW) Canada, Local 175 members working at Vera M. Davis Community Care Centre in Bolton, Ont. signed a new labour agreement on Sept. 17 that provides wage increases and new job positions.
During negotiations, the employer brought several concessions to the table, which made this round of bargaining extremely difficult and resulted in the parties meeting in conciliation, says the union.
Under the newly ratified contract, wages across all job classifications will increase by one per cent retroactive to Dec. 1, 2017, and 1.75 per cent retroactive to Dec. 1, 2018. This year, employees will see a raise of 1.75 per cent, followed by another raise of 1.75 per cent in year four of the agreement, says UFCW.
The union and the employer will meet to discuss wage scales for the new job positions entitled resident assessment instrument (RAI) specialist and behavioural supports Ontario nurse (BSON), says the union.
The bargaining unit at Vera M. Davis Community Care Centre is comprised of 27 full-time and 50 part-time employees.UFCW Canada Locals 175 and 633 represent more than 70,000 Ontarians.
