Three-quarters of U.K. office workers want more flexible work schedule: Survey

25 per cent never work from home

More than two-thirds (68 per cent) of office workers in the United Kingdom would like to be able to work from home, according to a survey by TeamViewer, provider of remote control and online meetings software. One-half would like to travel less for work reasons.

Three-quarters (78 per cent) of office workers want a more flexible work schedule to boost job satisfaction in the absence of pay increases, as the U.K. economy continues to stagnate.

While companies have talked about creating flexible working policies for years now, 25 per cent of respondents in the survey never work from home and a further 18 per cent rarely work from home.

Only 26 per cent of respondents are able to choose when they want to work from home, while a further 22 per cent said home-working arrangements are flexible as long as they receive prior agreement from their manager, found TeamViewer.

When asked what would further improve their home working experience, 55 per cent said faster connectivity, 51 per cent wanted access to all documents, as if they were based in the office, and 33 per cent wanted their employer to contribute to their utility bills.

When working from home, 14 per cent of workers like to work in the garden and 13 per cent like to work in bed. But they also tend to stick to their typical office routine, with 36 per cent taking tea and coffee breaks at the same time each day, 35 per cent starting work at the same time every day, 33 always showering before they start the working day and 29 per cent always finishing work at the same time every day.
