'Social media experts' among jobs that will be gone in 10 years

Taxi dispatchers, postal workers also in top 5: Report

While social media experts are in high demand today, that job will not exist in 10 years, alongside taxi dispatchers, postal workers, retail cashiers and word processor typists, according to a Thinkopolis report from Workopolis.

“As we look ahead at employment trends, it’s important to look back,” said Tara Talbot, vice-president of human resources at Workopolis. “Today’s job market changes rapidly and the most successful leaders and employees monitor the shifting landscape closely and adapt quickly.”

When it comes to looking ahead at the job market, almost twice as many Canadians believe the job market will improve going into 2014. That optimism will be most prevalent in Windsor, Ont., Saskatoon and Regina, which rank as the top three cities with increased job postings on Workopolis.
