Employees to choose Ottawa’s best employers

Online survey will include public and private sector organizations

Employees will soon have their say about which companies are the best in Ottawa. A new survey, to be launched by a group of Ottawa HR leaders this summer, will uncover the top 10 employers in the nation’s capital.

“There is currently no survey of top 10 employers that looks at employment experience from the employee’s perspective,” said Tom Bursey, vice-president, client services at HR consultant firm Right Management, and a member of the HR leaders group.

“What makes this survey unique is that employees will nominate their employers for the award. It is conceivable that a winning company might not even know they were nominated.”

Surveys of top employers exist at the national level, but there is no current survey for Ottawa as a regional market. The survey is tailored to include all of the city's industries as well as the public and private sectors.

“What will define the top 10 employers is the quality of employment experience as revealed by employees,” said Jane McVeigh, who as vice-president of human resources at defence contractor General Dynamics Canada is also part of the initiative.

“It will be fascinating to hear from employees through this survey, and to uncover the greatest places to work in Ottawa.”

Employees will nominate their employer by completing an online survey. The top 10 winners will be showcased in the Ottawa Business Journal and at a special awards event at the Ottawa HR Forum on November 7 to 8.
