After two years of decreases, employer rates will be unchanged in 2007
Saskatchewan's workers' compensation rates should remain the same in 2007, according to the province's Workers' Compensation Board (WCB).
The board is proposing to hold employer premium rates at the average 2006 level of $1.84 per $100 of payroll.
Under the proposal, approximately two-thirds of the 33,000 WCB-registered employers would see premiums go down or stay the same in 2007.
About 25 per cent of businesses would see increases averaging 4.4 per cent, while a small number of employers would see increases averaging 14.9 per cent.
The proposed 2007 rates follow an average 6.6-per-cent decrease in 2006 and a 3.9-per-cent decrease in 2005. Saskatchewan premiums are among the lowest of all Canadian provinces, the WCB said.
The increase in claim volumes is one reason the rates will remain the same instead of decreasing as they have in the past, said WCB CEO Peter Federko.
