Awards will recognize best in HR (Editor’s notes)

8 awards to be given out as part of Human Resources Summit Awards

Everybody loves a little recognition. Nobody knows this better than HR professionals who, after all, are the ones who drive recognition programs and tout the benefits of rewarding workers for a job well done.

Well, now it’s time for the HR profession to step into the limelight and get some recognition of its own. Canadian HR Reporter, in association with the Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) of Ontario, is launching the inaugural Human Resources Summit Awards and we’re looking for nominations.

This is a national award — anyone from Victoria to St. John’s, Nfld., is eligible — and you don’t have to be a member of the HRPA to nominate, be nominated or win. We’re looking to recognize outstanding contributions to the Canadian HR profession and the business community through people management innovation, HR leadership and academic research.

“The time is right for a Canadian HR awards program,” said Bill Greenhalgh, chief executive officer of HRPA. “The biggest challenge facing Canadian businesses are human resources issues — war for talent, exodus of baby boomers and dipping employee engagement levels. The Summit Awards will recognize people who have done great things in HR. It is important to recognize these individuals because it improves both the stature of the profession — shows business what HR can, and does, achieve — and provides an example to be emulated in the profession itself. It’s time to recognize these HR professionals for their outstanding contributions to both the profession and business community.”

Honours will be handed out at a gala awards dinner on Jan. 27, 2009 — right before HRPA’s annual conference — at the Intercontinental Hotel in Toronto. Canadian HR Reporter will carry complete coverage of the winners.

Take a moment to peruse the website and think about who among your colleagues is deserving of some recognition. The red carpet will be waiting for them next year.
