Top NKE achievers recognized across Canada

Those with highest marks on NPPA also announced

The top performers on the National Knowledge Exam (NKE) and National Professional Practice Assessment (NPPA) have been announced by the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA).

The certified human resources professional (CHRP) candidates who performed most successfully in their province on the NKE — which measures academic knowledge of HR professionals — were:

• Richard Russell, circulation manager at Black Press (British Columbia)

• Martine Empson, administrative assistant of people at JPL Vehicle Management Services (Alberta)

• Trevor Smith, Saskatchewan Gaming Authority (Saskatchewan)

• Kristianne Dechant, research leader at the Manitoba Gaming Control Commission (Manitoba)

• Jillian Leder (Ontario)

• Leigh Rowen (Ontario)

• Michelle Feder, HR co-ordinator at C.A.T. (Quebec)

• Jason Legere, HR consultant at Bell Aliant (New Brunswick)

• Tricia Livingston, employee relations specialist at the University of New Brunswick (N.B.)

• Isle Karagonlar, HR generalist (Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island)

• Christa Holloway, manager of employee relations at Convergys (Newfoundland and Labrador)

• Yvonne Knight, HR generalist at the Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information (NL)

“I want to specially congratulate these outstanding individuals for achieving the highest scores in their provinces,” said Debbie Bennett, chair of the CCHRA. “They have shown great dedication to the HR profession and we wish them the best of luck as they continue on the path to becoming a CHRP.”

The human resources practitioners who achieved the highest mark in their province on the NPPA and obtained the CHRP designation will receive the Award for Human Resources Excellence from the CCHRA.

The top scorers by province on the NPPA for October 2010 were:

• Jennifer Billingsley, HR advisor at Thompson Rivers University (B.C.)

• Navneet Sidhu, HR manager at Cintas Canada (B.C.)

• Wendy German (Alberta)

• Mark Brochu, labour relations consultant at Qu’Appelle Heath (Saskatchewan)

• Jennifer Spier, BPSP business preparedness manager at the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (Manitoba)

• Joanie McGraw, HR advisor (N.B.)

• Todd Seward (N.S. and P.E.I.)

• Dusty Barron, HR manager at Technip Canada (NL)

• Catherine Rowsell, principal at CM Rowsell Human Resources Consulting and lead of labour relations and team effectiveness at Nalcor Energy (NL)

“As human resources management continues to play an increasingly strategic role in business across Canada and the world, the CHRP designation signifies a practitioner’s commitment to the profession. The CCHRA wishes all new CHRPs the best of luck as they advance in their careers as HR professionals,” said Bennett.
