HR mentoring program launched in Toronto
The Toronto HR Professionals Association (THRPA) has introduced a mentoring program for HR professionals. Mentors must be a THRPA member at the manager level or above with at least five years’ experience and hold the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation. Those wishing to be mentored must be an employed HRPAO or THRPA member with a minimum of six months’ experience and be working towards the CHRP designation. The program is an opportunity for seasoned HR professionals to develop the next generation and gives the less experienced the opportunity to learn from them. A new rewards association has set up shop in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Established on July 1, 2006, the GTA Rewards Association is a not-for-profit organization that aims to create a community for total rewards and related professionals. The association is a member of the WorldatWork Group Partnership Network, an alliance of 83 independent and locally governed compensation, benefits and HR organizations across North America. The association will be officially launched at an event on Oct. 4 in Toronto.

CCHRA announces the best of the best
More than 1,650 HR professionals from across Canada wrote one of the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations’ (CCHRA) two national exams in May 2006. This represents an increase of more than 275 per cent from May 2004 when 430 wrote either the National Knowledge Exam or the National Professional Practice Assessment. HR professionals must pass both exams to gain the CHRP designation. Click here for a list of the country’s top performers.
New exam transfer credit for designations
The Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), Group Benefits Associate (GBA) and Compensation Management Specialist (CMS) programs now award one exam transfer credit for those who hold the Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designations. The CEBS, GBA and CMS programs are co-sponsored by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. The PHR and SPHR designations are awarded by the Society of Human Resources Management and the CCP is awarded by WorldatWork.
