Saskatchewan is stepping up its efforts to recruit and retain nurses by creating a provincial nursing mentorship program and providing more funds for professional development and the assessment of internationally educated nurses.

"Keeping and attracting nurses is a top priority of this government as part of our plan to reduce wait lists and improve access to services," said Health Minister Len Taylor in a statement.

The government is investing an additional $4 million into its recruitment grants program to double its nursing recruitment target from 400 to 800 over three years.
