Union victories at Wal-Mart

Saskatoon and Quebec City — The Saskatchewan Court of Appeal has upheld a decision to certify a union at a Wal-Mart store in Weyburn, Sask. The unanimous decision upheld the 2008 certification of United Food and Commercial Workers of Canada Local 1400, reversing the finding of a lower court. The Quebec Superior Court has also upheld an arbitrator’s decision that Wal-Mart acted illegally when it shut down a store in Jonquiere, Que., shortly after workers formed a union in 2005.
