Employee engagement is dropping around the globe, according to recent research. The proportion of organizations with falling engagement scores has tripled in two years, with the most notable drops occurring this year, according to Aon Hewitt.

Almost one-half of 900 organizations surveyed around the world saw a significant drop in employee engagement at the end of the second quarter of 2010 — the largest decline in 15 years of employee engagement research.

As the economy continues to improve and competition for top talent picks up again, employers need to take action to boost employee engagement and avoid common mistakes that can inadvertently sow the seeds of disengagement.
