Government hosts roundtable discussions on women in workforce

Topics include employment equity, harassment, recruitment, retention

The federal government is hosting a series of roundtable discussions on the issue of women in the workforce this summer. Discussion topics include employment equity, workplace violence, harassment, discrimination, recruitment and retention.

"Healthy work environments act as a catalyst to productivity and innovation, said Lisa Raitt, Canada’s minister of labour. “Together we can work towards achieving a model for fair, respectful and healthy workplaces for women that will lead to a strong and prosperous Canada.”

Raitt recently met with stakeholders in Mississauga, Ont., for the first roundtable session.

"I would like to thank all the participants for sharing their comments and best practice approaches with respect to the challenges women face in today's evolving workplaces," she said.

The visits highlight the federal government's commitment to improving fairness for women in the workforce as part of its ongoing efforts to create productive work environments and a stronger economy, said the government.
