Discuss advancement, professional development opportunities with employees
For workers, "show me the way" can be just as important as "show me the money. Nearly four out of 10 (39 per cent) workers said knowing their career path is very important to their overall job satisfaction, according to a survey of 278 employees by Accountemps.
Nearly one-half (48 per cent) of respondents feel this feedback is at least somewhat important.
And 10 per cent said knowing their potential career path was not too important, found the survey.
"Discussing career options is a great opportunity to demonstrate to employees that the company values their work and is committed to helping them grow in their careers," said Kathryn Bolt, Canadian president of Accountemps. "Managers should ensure their staff clearly sees their potential to advance and take on increasing responsibility within the organization."
Managers should discuss with their employees opportunities around:
•growth and advancement
•professional development and education
•internal and external networking
•taking on more responsibilities.
