Alberta publications aid employers with workplace issues

New websites created to address skills shortages

Alberta has created two new websites to provide jobseekers with information on wages and qualifications. The sites were created to help address skills shortages.

CERTinfo (www.alis.gov.ab.ca/certinfo) provides certification and registration requirements for more than 60 occupations. WAGEinfo (www.alis.gov. ab.ca/wageinfo) offers wage and salary ranges for 497 occupations.

“With Alberta’s shortage of skilled workers, it is important to provide as much information as possible to attract the right people with the right skills and to let people know what kind of training and experience are required for certain occupations,” said Clint Dunford, Human Resources and Employment Minister.

Also from the Alberta government: two new print resources have been published to help employers struggling with disputes and work-life balance issues in the workplace. Let’s Talk: A Guide to Resolving Workplace Conflicts offers a six-step process for resolving workplace conflicts and Better Balance, Better Business: Options for Work-life Issues shows that practices such as flex-time, telecommuting and job sharing can reduce absenteeism costs while boosting employee morale and productivity. More information is available at www.alis.gov.ab.ca.
