Questions related to personal attributes preferred
The resumé helps land the interview, but when it comes to making hiring decisions, employers are looking for less-obvious clues an applicant is right for the job, according to a survey by Accountemps.
Forty-two per cent of the 1,000 American chief financial officers (CFOs) surveyed said their go-to interview questions are those related to personal attributes, such as "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" and “How do you handle stress?”
Thirty-four per cent of survey respondents prefer to ask about qualifications, such as "Tell me about your previous experience" and "Why should we hire you?"
And 24 per cent of respondents said job or company-specific questions were their favourites, found the survey.
"During the interview, employers are interested in learning what a resumé won't tell them — if the applicant's personality and work style are right for the job," said Max Messmer, chairman of Accountemps.
