Good corporate culture makes good business sense. It breeds a sense of good will that shows itself in the actions and attitudes of consumers, of investors and very importantly, of employees. Not only can a good corporate and socially responsible reputation inspire an employee to go above and beyond, but it can also sway the decision of a promising job candidate to join the team. The following sites look at different aspects of good corporate culture and corporate social responsibility.

This article, published in Communication World in 2001, defines corporate social responsibility (CSR) and explains ways in which good CSR can affect various stakeholder groups, including both existing and potential employees. The author states that “companies can use their corporate social responsibility track record to entice high-quality job applicants and to improve the morale of existing employees. Employees have better self-images if they are working for a company with a reputation for socially responsible behaviour.” She goes on to point out different CSR models, the necessity of measuring, communicating and reporting on CSR initiatives and different methods of delivering the company’s message.

“Every year, the Globe and Mail’s Report on Business magazine publishes the list of the 50 Best Employers in Canada. The list is generated from the Best Employers in Canada study, conducted annually by global human resources outsourcing and consulting firm, Hewitt Associates. The goal of the study is to identify “best employers” based on feedback from employees, leaders and HR professionals.” The website looks at the benefits of competing, study guidelines and lists the 50 best of 2004, as well as backlists from previous years. Lists from companies in other countries are offered as well.
