How good is your boss?

Website, powered by Monster.ca, lets Canadians anonymously rate their bosses

How good, or bad, is your boss?

Monster.ca is giving employees across Canada a chance to give their boss the thumbs up, or thumbs down, in a nationwide survey.

The Rate Your Boss Survey has been designed to give employees a voice in identifying the best people to work for in Canada, recognizing their boss’s contribution to a satisfying work life, according to a press release from Monster.

The survey invites participants to grade their boss’s performance by reacting to survey statements such as:

• “I always know what my boss expects of me.”

• “The boss listens to everyone’s viewpoint before taking action.”

• “The boss helps me realize my full potential.”

“The survey includes an amusing interactive interface featuring a male or female face whose expression changes in stages — from joy to displeasure — to match the way participants rate the boss in each statement,” Monster said in the press release.

The survey produces a boss rating in the form of a percentage rating that participants can then compare to the ratings of other bosses in the same industry, as well as bosses working in other industries across Canada.

The final results will be tallied, analyzed and compared by city, by province and by job sector. They will be used to create a roster of Canada’s best bosses, who will each receive a certificate.

“Best employers surveys can be quite faceless by generally focusing on compensation, schedules or working conditions,” said Gabriel Bouchard, vice-president and general manager, Monster.ca. “With ‘Rate Your Boss’ we wanted to do something a little different by highlighting how people are the most important factor in affecting job satisfaction. Bosses who have the skills and talent to bring out the best in their employees can make exceptional contribution not just to the bottom line, but also to the quality of work life.”

As of June 16, about 70,000 Canadians have completed the survey and 1,500 bosses have been nominated as Canada’s best.

The survey is available online at www.rateyourboss.ca.
