Newfoundland and Labrador joins national HR association

Provincial group becomes ninth member of the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations

The newly formed Association of Human Resources Professionals of Newfoundland and Labrador (HRPNL) has joined the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA).

The Newfoundland and Labrador group is the ninth member association on the council. HRPNL president Joe Bouzanne said participation in national standards is one of the many professional activities being planned.

Bouzanne said plans are underway to have eligible members register to write the national exams leading to the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation.

“The CHRP designation is a trademark for HR excellence and is increasing the recognition of the profession’s contribution to Canadian business success,” said Bouzanne. “We in Newfoundland and Labrador wanted to make sure that our HR professionals and students would have the same opportunities to obtain the designation as everyone else across Canada.”

Anne Charette, president of the CCHRA, said the addition of Newfoundland and Labrador “fulfills a board mandate to make the CCHRA the most representative HR professional association in Canada. It aligns with our strategic goal to be the voice of HR in Canada.”

The CCHRA is a collaborative of nine HR associations who represent more than 30,000 HR professionals across Canada, 14,000 of whom hold the CHRP designation.

The HRPNL was formed by a group of HR practitioners in February 2004.
