Manitoba debuts anti-psychological harassment regulation; Electricity Sector Council offers wage subsidies
Manitoba debuts anti-psychological harassment regulation
Winnipeg — Employers will have to protect workers from psychological harassment in the workplace, including intimidation, bullying and humiliation, under changes to Manitoba’s Workplace, Safety and Health Regulation. Employers will have to put measures in place to prevent harassment and address it if it occurs, as of Feb. 1, 2011. Ontario, Saskatchewan and Quebec also have similar legislation. Other changes will provide clear direction to employers and workers on the steps necessary to eliminate or control workplace hazards, strengthen the requirements for the use of personal protective equipment and reflect updated standards.
Electricity Sector Council offers wage subsidies
Ottawa — Energy industry employers can apply for wage subsidies of up to $10,000 for each new technician, technologist and engineer hired. To qualify for the Electricity Sector Council wage subsidy, an employer must hire a full-time employee who will work 30 hours a week and pay the employee $2 for every $1 in wage subsidy. The employer must also develop a formal learning plan for the employee, who must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and be a new hire. The application is available at www.brightfutures.ca
