Top 10 planned enhancements to HRMS systems

In some ways an HR management system is never complete. Advances in technology and the development of new functional capabilities mean HR departments always have the option of making improvements to the system.

A large number of organizations implemented systems in the late ’90s, and a survey conducted last year by Canadian HR Reporter, with HR systems consulting firm Arinso and the automated survey company Perceptor Solutions, revealed those organizations are now looking at adding new pieces to the system.

Many of the organizations that implemented after 1997 are moving into a phase two of sorts and looking at adding non-critical functionality they initially deferred, said John Johnston of Arinso. Broadly speaking the most popular system improvements deal with HR planning and career development, followed closely by recruitment related functionalities. The 10 most frequently planned enhancements cited were:

•employee/job competency information;

•succession planning information;

•employee performance appraisal information;

•job information and evaluation results;

•career planning information;

•occupational health and safety information;

•training information;

•employee compensation and incentive plan information;

•job information and position description; and

•candidate and applicant information.
