Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2018, to June 30, 2020. Signed on Dec. 13, 2018.

Paid holidays: 8 days. Resident physicians will receive 6 consecutive days off duty with pay between Dec. 20 and Jan. 5 in lieu of Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day.

Vacations with pay: 20 days per appointment year, pro-rated for part-time resident physicians.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 75% of premiums for Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. Employer pays 75% of premiums for Health Benefit Trust of Alberta (HBTA) supplementary health benefits plan or equivalent. Employer will provide $1,000 per academic year flexible spending account (FSA).

Dental: Employer pays 75% of premiums for HBTA Usual and Customary Dental Plan (previously HBTA Standard Dental Plan). 80% of basic coverage. 50% of major coverage, orthodontic (for dependants younger than 21) coverage.

Paramedical: Maximum $35 per visit, maximum $700 per year for physiotherapist, chiropractor, podiatrist/chiropodist, registered massage therapist (requires a prescription). $50 per visit, maximum $700 per year, for chartered psychologist, master of social work, certificated addictions/drug counsellor.

Sick leave: 90 days for each appointment year. If leave for illness or non-occupational injury occurs in last 90 days of final appointment year, that appointment year will be extended to ensure coverage for up to 90 days of sick-leave benefits at which time resident physician may become eligible to receive LTD benefits.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of relative. 5 additional days in extenuating circumstances.

Seniority – recall rights: 18 months.

Uniforms/clothing: If required by training facility, uniforms such as standard lab coats, scrub suits or equivalent, will be provided to resident physician and laundered by training facility.

Sample rates of stipend pay (current):

Chief-resident physicians: $200 for each approved and filled residency position in program on Sept. 1 of that year, maximum $8,000 per year (previously $4,000 per year).

Practice stipend: $1,500 (previously $2,000) (all resident physicians will receive 1 taxable practice stipend for each year of active residency training)

Weekday: $118.02 for every weekday in-house call assigned and worked

Weekend/named holiday/Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day: $178.72

Home call

Weekday: $59.01

Weekend/named holiday/Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day: $89.35

Shift-based rotation

Weekday: $59.01

Editor’s notes: Flex days: In recognition of resident physicians who are scheduled and take call on day before holiday resulting in working portion of holiday, all resident physicians will be entitled to 4 flex days off each appointment year, without loss of pay. Additional living allowance: $12,000 per appointment year for resident physician based in Fort McMurray. $3,000 per appointment year for resident physician based in Grande Prairie.
