Wage adjustments:
Effective Jan. 1, 2019: 2%

Shift premium: $1 per hour for hours worked between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. Maintenance assistants who work Saturday and Sunday 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. shifts, and who hold level 1 pool operator’s certificate, will receive maintenance worker (aquatic centre) rate.
Paid holidays: 12 days.
Vacations with pay: Pro-rated from date of hire or 5% to start, 15 days or 7% after 1 year, 20 days or 9% after 4 years, 25 days or 11% after 11 years, 30 days or 13% after 18 years, 35 days or 15% after 25 years. 1 additional day for each additional year +0.4% for each additional day after 26th year onward.
Overtime: Time and one-half for all worked before or after shift which exceeds regular daily or weekly hours and for first 4 hours worked on employee’s first day of rest. Double time after 3 hours of overtime and on statutory holidays; for all work on second day or rest or for all work after 4 hours of first day of rest. May be banked and taken as time off but must be taken by June 30 of following year or time will be paid out. Employee may accumulate earned annual vacations greater than 2 weeks.
Meal allowance: $17 (plus one-half hour of paid time to eat meal) for working 2 hours or more as continuation of normal or special work day or before normal or special work day (unless at least 1 hour’s notice has been given). If employee chooses not to eat meal or completes work before eating meal, one-half hour of pay will be given. Employees who are called in for overtime and work more than 4 hours are also eligible for allowance.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for Medical Services Plan of B.C. and major medical insurance plan.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 80% for basic dental services (plan A); 50% for prosthetics, crowns and bridges (plan B); 50% for orthodontics (Plan C), lifetime maximum $6,000 (previously lifetime maximum $5,000).
Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $150 per person (previously $120 per person) for eye examination; $600 (previously $500) for lenses and frames, contact lenses, laser eye surgery in any 24-month period.
Sick leave: 1.5 days per month, maximum 175 days. 16.5 hours per month, maximum 1,166 hours for group 3 employees.
LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $100,000.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $100,000.
Pension: Municipal Pension Plan.
Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of spouse (includes common-law spouse), child, stepchild, parent, stepparent, sibling. 3 days for death of brother-in-law, sister-in-law, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild. One-half day to attend funeral as pallbearer.
Seniority – recall rights: Period equal to lesser of 18 months or length of service for layoffs.
Call-in pay: Hours will be deemed overtime with minimum 2 hours’ overtime pay.
Probationary period: First 60 days worked for full-time employees; first 480 hours worked or 2 years, whichever comes first, for all other employees.
Uniforms/clothing: All employees working in any dirty or dangerous capacity will be supplied with all necessary working tools, safety equipment, protective clothing. All regular employees will receive $200 per year work wear allowance; $150 per year for part-time instructor/guards who are not regular employees but who are package holders. All other employees will receive annual allowance of $0.10 per hour (paid out by Jan. 30 of each year).
Tool allowance: $100 per year for carpenters, mechanics.

Editor’s notes: Pay in lieu of benefits: Regular part-time, part-time, auxiliary employees will be paid 15% more than basic hourly rate in lieu of: statutory holidays, annual vacation, sick leave, bereavement leave, employee benefits (16% after 4 years, 17% after 11 years, 18% after 18 years, 19% after 25 years). Early call out: Employee required to report for work before 4 a.m. (without having received minimum of 24 hours’ notice) will be paid overtime for all time worked (time worked will be deemed to be complete workday if employee receives minimum 5 hours of work). Standby pay: Any employee who works standby on weekends will be paid 8 hours at rate of pay for water and sewer chargehand classification per day on those days on which they are assigned to standby. Long-service pay: After 10 years of service, employees will be paid 1 day at regular rate at time of termination for each full year of service for employees who are 55 or older, have 35 years of pensionable service upon retirement.
