Renewal agreement: Effective Sept. 1, 2018, to Aug. 31, 2023. Signed on Oct. 11, 2018.
Paid holidays: 9 days, plus half day before Christmas, half day on New Year’s Eve. St-Jean-Baptiste day will be substituted for civic holiday for employees who live in Quebec.
Vacations with pay: 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 5 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 15 years, 6 weeks or 9% after 15 years. Employee will receive accumulated vacation credits calculated from and including previous June 1 if employee is terminated for any reason.
Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 10 hours per day or 60 hours per week.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums.
Dental: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums. 50% reimbursement, maximum $1,500 per year for routine coverage.
Paramedical: $500 each per year for chiropractors, social workers, physiotherapists, podiatrists/chiropodists.
LTD: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums for coverage of 60% of monthly earnings, maximum $2,000 or 85% of pre-disability take-home pay, whichever is less, maximum 5-year payout after 119 day waiting period.
AD&D: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums for coverage of $25,000.
Life insurance: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums for coverage of $25,000.
Pension: Employer will contribute 2% into DC plan, after 1 year of service.
Bereavement leave: 3 days for death of spouse, parents, children, sisters, brothers, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandchildren, any relative residing in employee’s household. 2 days for death of grandparents, stepparents, stepchildren.
Seniority – recall rights: 12 months.
Call-in pay: Minimum 6 hours’ pay. Time and one for all call-ins which require employees to work more than 10 hours in 24 hours.
Probationary period: 90 calendar days.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months.
Safety shoes: Employer will provide $150 (previously $125) for 1 pair of safety shoes after 1 year of employment.
Tool allowance: Employer will supply all necessary tools and equipment.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 8.3% increase):
Highway drivers: $24 rising 3 steps to $26
Sample rates of mileage pay (current, after 3.3% increase):
Highway drivers (less than 100-mile radius): $0.46 rising 3 steps to $0.475
Editor’s notes: Discharges: After discharge of employee, if final pay is not forwarded within 3 working days, employer will pay $30 per working day to employee between end of third working day and day pay was forwarded. Training: Drivers requesting training on special equipment during own time will be paid at 100% of regular hourly rate while training. Layovers: 9 hours’ pay for every 24-hour period. Employer will pay for accommodations and pay $18 meal allowance to employees. Drivers operating trucks equipped with sleeper bunks will receive $10 during layover and no motel rooms are supplied. Dead-head rate: Employees who dead-head will be paid prevailing hourly rate, which will include breakdowns, all delays. Drivers will not dead-head in vehicles that are not equipped with passenger seats. Parking: Employer will provide parking area at each terminal where employees may park private vehicles free of charge. Truck wash: Employees will be paid one-half hour per week at straight-time hourly rate to wash truck.
