Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022. Signed on July 1, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective July 1, 2019: 2%

Effective July 1, 2020: 2%

Effective July 1, 2021: 2%

Shift premium: $1 per hour for working afternoon shift from 4 p.m. to midnight; $1.15 per hour for working graveyard shift from midnight to 8 a.m. (where majority of employee’s regular hours of work fall within either afternoon or graveyard shift, differential will be paid for all hours worked). $48.75 semi-monthly for employees who hold occupational first aid level 2 or 3 certificate.

Paid holidays: 12 days.

Vacations with pay: 20 days after 1 year, 26 days after 7 years, 28 days after 10 years (previously 28 days after 15 years), 30 days after 15 years, (previously 30 days after 25 years).

Employees may carry over maximum 5 days’ vacation leave to next year; employees may carry over additional 5 days for maximum 10 days’ vacation leave to next year.

Overtime: Time and one-half for first 2 hours worked; double time thereafter. Double-time for all hours worked on sixth, seventh consecutive days of work. May be taken as time off in lieu but time not taken by Dec. 31 will be paid out.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums. Employer pays 100% of premiums for extended health. Employer pays 70% of premiums, employee pays 30% of premiums for employee and family assistance program.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Sick leave: 1.25 days for every month of service, maximum accumulation of 152 days.

LTD: Employee pays 100% of premiums.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Pension: University staff pension plan.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death in immediate family (father, mother, spouse, same-sex partner, brother, sister, son, daughter, common-law child, ward, grandparent, grandchild, father-in-law, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law). 1 day to attend funeral of friend or relation not defined, maximum 2 days per year.

Seniority – recall rights: 12 months.

Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours at appropriate overtime rates (double time on holidays). If call-in extends into employee’s scheduled hours, employee will be paid at appropriate overtime rates for first 4 hours worked, with balance of hours worked paid at employee’s regular rate.

Probationary period: 910 regular hours of service (probationary employee on leave that extends beyond 2 weeks will have probationary period extended for period equal to leave).

Severance: 5 days for each year of service after 1 year employed; 40 days after 5 years employed; 5 days for each year of service after 9 years employed.

Safety shoes: $150 once every year for employees (with more than 1,820 hours of seniority) who are required by WorkSafeBC regulations to wear safety footwear.

Editor’s notes: Union orientation: Employer will allow 4 90-minute lunch meetings (12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.) in each year. Shift change notice: If 48 hours’ advance notice is not given of shift change hours, employees affected will receive applicable overtime pay for any work performed within 48-hour period. Trouble call: Minimum 2 hours’ pay at appropriate overtime rates (double time on holidays) for call outside employee’s scheduled hours for information or advice regarding problem at workplace. Standby pay: $38 for each 24-hour period on standby. Rescind resignation: Employee who was on regular appointment and who resigns for personal reasons may, within 7 calendar days of date of resignation, apply to be reinstated in former position. Retirement leave benefit: Upon retirement,  employees who were 48 years old and accumulated 14 years of service as of July 1, 2005, will be given cash payout, equal to maximum of 60 days of accumulated sick leave. Medical examinations: When employer requires employee to undergo medical examination, it will be at employer’s expense and on employer time. Staff development fund: Employer will provide $59,000 for 2019-2020 fiscal year; $94,000 for 2020-2021 fiscal year; $137,000 for 2021-2022 fiscal year and subsequent fiscal years to fund staff development activities (funds not expended in any fiscal year will be carried forward to next fiscal year).
