WCB Manitoba announces workplace innovation winners

Comparing disabilities in urban and rural centres, youth prevention among initiatives

The Workers Compensation Board of Manitoba (WCB) has announced the latest grant recipients for its Research and Workplace Innovation Program.

Recently funded initiatives include projects focusing on preventing workplace injuries in health care, comparing work disability in rural and urban health-care workers and understanding young worker responses to work hazards.

The program funds scientific research and programs that develop, evaluate or innovate solutions for improving health and safety in the workplace.

Other projects to be funded by the $1 million available every year will focus on rehabilitation options for workers with rotator cuff tears, returning to work after total knee replacements and delivering post-secondary occupational health and safety education and training throughout Manitoba.

“Through the years, the initiatives supported through the Research and Workplace Innovation Program have resulted in practical applications and new resources that have been shared with employers, workers, and the general public,” said WCB President and CEO Doug Sexsmith. “The grants help our partners in the community create innovative projects that reduce workplace injuries and disease and help injured workers recover, contributing to a strong culture of safety in Manitoba.”

The program is now accepting proposals for 2011 grants. For more information visit www.wcb.mb.ca/research-and-workplace-innovation-program-0
