A plethora of options for recruitment technology

Recruiting and staffing technology is more mature than most of the HR solutions on the market

Organizations have more options than ever when it comes to recruiting and staffing technology solutions. And that technology is more mature than many of the niche HR solutions on the market.

The number of options and the multiple methods of deployment available today create opportunities for recruiting and staffing solutions to fit into a human capital management delivery strategy.

Demands on recruiting and staffing departments

With the demand for new and more skilled employees, recruiting departments must ensure the processes are accurate, reliable and efficient. There are a number of things HR professionals should keep in mind when choosing technology to help with the recruitment process.

Recruiting and staffing solutions generally offer data centralization through synchronization with information from the core human resource management system. For an organization to ensure its hiring needs are met as they arise, it is essential for there to be a link between data that describes its needs and information about what is needed and who is available in the marketplace.

Organizations also want to ensure there is a common look and feel between the tools used for various tasks related to the recruiting and staffing function. Whether an organization opts to use an enterprise resource planning solution to conduct all of its tasks or selects individual, best-of-breed solutions that meet the needs of individual departments, all of the solutions must work together effectively and in a relatively cohesive manner. Training on the overall solution can be minimized if the solutions work well together.

Effective data synchronization and a common look and feel with other HR functions facilitate a portal strategy where all these tools can easily be accessed and work effectively together.

Technology options

Understanding the organization’s level of complexity with some of these requirements and the ability to meet these needs internally is the next step in building a human capital management delivery strategy.

Some organizations find they can manage all HR needs in-house and there are solutions available on the market that can offer the necessary functionality. But many organizations are finding their needs are becoming too complex and time-consuming to manage internally, and are looking elsewhere to meet recruitment technology needs.

The market has been offering various types of solutions to organizations for many years, and the maturity of recruitment and staffing has led to products that better fit an organization’s needs. Firms can choose from a variety of options, ranging from a hosted solution all the way to a fully outsourced one.

Hosted applications offer recruiters the ability to conduct everyday tasks without the burden of managing the technology. Technology within this realm has evolved and has led to a revolution of sorts within the recruiting and staffing world. Organizations can leverage Internet technologies to not only access a software application, but also to interact with candidates, recruiters and managers to gather information, as well as to send information like reports.

Some larger organizations are finding that a fully outsourced model — where the technology and the day-to-day functions are outsourced — work best for them.
