Stay ahead of labour market shifts with Strategic HR

Which industries are increasingly vacant, driven by fewer employees or available jobs?  How are wages keeping pace with inflation, between industries or genders?

Where are employment-related court decisions increasing? Which industries experience the highest employee turnover?

How is the labour force evolving across provinces and major cities? What’s happening with unemployment across age groups and education levels?

Now more than ever, these are crucial questions for the Canadian HR professional, whether leading country-wide recruitment strategies or evaluating how local job postings stack up with broader trends. Fortunately, each of these questions is answered and visualized in Canadian HR Reporter’s latest monthly publication: Strategic HR.

Monthly overview of Canadian labour market

Strategic HR offers a monthly, curated overview of Canada’s most relevant labour market data, taken from Statistics Canada’s Labour Force Survey, Job Vacancy and Wage Survey, and Consumer Price Index. It also includes up-to-date volumes of employment-related court decisions across 125 federal and provincial tribunals, sourced from the Canadian Legal Information Institute (CanLii).

Across five sections (vacancies; wages; tenure and litigation; labour force; and unemployment) and their various sub-sections, Strategic HR delivers the most recent available data to its monthly edition. By measuring changes against the same month the year before, the report captures structural shifts across industries and locations, informing active responses to often seismic changes in Canadian industries, wages and the labour market.

Our year-over-year approach also avoids seasonal differences which can arise in month-to-month comparisons, an unfavorable feature of other statistical agency reports.

Custom graphics pinpoint key trends

Each of Strategic HR’s 13 sub-sections are supported with custom, clear and easy-to-read graphics that pinpoint key trends, highlight the most striking changes, and rank shifts across variables like gender wage gaps, employee tenure, provincial labour force growth and much more.

Canada's new national economic direction and continental trade realities have quickly reshaped its economic barriers and industrial investments. Senior economists and everyday workers alike foresee a remarkably volatile year for the Canadian economy, its businesses and employers. Strategic HR equips Canadian HR professionals with real-time visibility into the trends reshaping the labour market, along with monthly analysis to turn those insights into action.
