Renewal agreement: Effective Nov. 1, 2021 to Sept. 30, 2023. Signed on Dec. 22, 2021.
Wage adjustments:
Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 2.5%
Effective Nov. 1, 2022: 1%
Effective Nov. 1, 2023: 1.5%
Medical benefits: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums.
LTD: Employee pays 100% of premiums.
Life insurance: Employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums.
Pension: Employer will contribute 12% to RRSP; officer’s contribution will be 6%.
Bereavement leave: 7 days for death in immediate family (parent or legal guardian, spouse (spouse is someone to whom officer is married or with whom officer has maintained conjugal relationship for 12 months), child). 4 days for death of grandparents, grandchild, brother, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, parents-in-law.
Seniority – recall rights: 24 months for officer who is promoted or transferred to position with employer but outside bargaining unit, in another bargaining unit or active in shore-based position; 2 years after layoff or if employee is unable to perform normal duties due to illness or accident
Probationary period: 180 days with employer or 2 tours of duty, whichever is greater.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months for records of disciplinary action
Severance: 4 days’ pay for each year of service, maximum 60 days basic pay without leave pay, after 6 years of service.
Safety shoes: $250 per year (for both footwear and uniforms). All officers are required to report to work with CSA-approved, steel-toe footwear (boots or shoes) for use at all times while working on board.
Uniforms/clothing: Upon commencement of employment, all officers will receive 1 pair of coveralls, 1 suit of raingear; thereafter, each year officers will each receive 2 pairs of regular coveralls plus 1 pair of insulated coveralls for winter use.
Sample rates of annual pay (current, after 1.5% increase):
Master: $226,845.30 rising 1 step to $230,247.98
Chief engineer: $218,882.14 rising 1 step to $222,165.37
Editor’s notes: Holiday pay: Should officer be scheduled off for either Christmas Day or New Year’s Day, and employer recalls officer to work either of these days, officer will be paid $500 bonus per holiday worked as compensation. Travel expenses: Employer will pay travel expenses (including accommodations) to and from officer’s residence to place of joining and departing vessel. Should officer relocate to location that results in increased travel costs or greater travel times, employee will be reimbursed lesser of actual costs or $1,000 per rotational cycle. Seniority bonus system: $1,500 for each year of service, maximum 10 years with cap of $15,000. Marine disaster: Officers who suffer loss of personal effects through wreck or marine disaster will be compensated for such loss, maximum $2,000.
