Renewal agreement: Effective June 1, 2019 to May 31, 2022. Ratified in February 2021. Signed on April 12, 2021.
Wage adjustments:
Effective June 1, 2019: 1.4%
Effective June 1, 2020: 1.5%
Effective June 1, 2021: 1.5%
Shift premium: $0.50 per hour for each hour worked on evening or night shift. $0.35 per hour for hours worked between start of shift commencing on or about 11 p.m. Friday and end of shift ending on or about 11 p.m. Sunday. $1.25 per hour to employees whose workload is increased during shift when another employee who is scheduled does not report for work and isn’t replaced. $10 per shift for RPN who supervises 2 floors due to lack of registered staff.
Paid holidays: 12 days including 2 floater days.
Vacations with pay: 1 day per month worked, maximum 7 days, to start, 2 weeks after 1 year. 3 weeks after 4 years, 4 weeks after 8 years, 5 weeks after 15 years, 6 weeks after 23 years, 7 weeks after 28 years.
Overtime: Time and one-half for hours worked in excess of 7.5 per day, 75 biweekly (previously 8 hours per day and 80 hours per week), all hours worked on paid holiday, and where employee works evening and night shifts consecutively.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for extended health care plan for full-time employees; employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums part-time employees.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for dental plan equivalent to Blue Cross #9 for full-time employees; employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums part-time employees.
Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for full-time employees; employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums part-time employees for vision care plan providing $300 every 24 months for employee and dependants.
Paramedical: Employer pays 100% of premiums for full-time employees; employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums part-time employees for coverage of $350 per practitioner per year.
Weekly indemnity: Employer pays 100% of premiums for plan covering personal illness or injury for weeks 18 through 35, for 66 2/3% of scheduled straight time wages lost.
Sick leave: 7.5 hours for every calendar month worked up to 105 hours for part-time employees. 7.5 hours for every 162.5 hours worked up to 105 hours for part-time workers.
STD: Employer will top-up EI sick leave benefits for weeks 3 through 17 of any personal illness or injury to 66 2/3% of straight-time wages.
AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums for full-time employees; employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums part-time employees.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for full-time employees; employer pays 50% of premiums, employee pays 50% of premiums part-time employees for single or family plan life insurance of $30,000 (previously $25,000) for full-time and $15,000 (previously $10,000) for part-time employees, with $2,500 spousal life insurance.
Pension: CLAC pension plan (defined contribution pension plan): employer and employee each contribute amount equal to 4% of employee’s gross wages.
Bereavement leave: 5 paid days for death of spouse, common-law spouse, child. 4 paid days for death of parent, sibling, grandchild. 3 paid days for death of grandparent, parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, child-in-law. 1 paid day for death of aunt, uncle, niece, nephew. 1 day may be saved to attend spring interment.
Seniority – recall rights: 24 months.
Probationary period: 450 hours worked with evaluation at 200 hours worked.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months.
Severance: 1 week of notice for every year of service for layoff.
Uniforms/clothing: Kitchen staff provided with aprons free of charge, if such aprons must be worn during work. Uniform allowance of $13 per month (previously $12) for full-time employees and $7 per month (previously $6) for part-time employees.

Editor’s notes: Shift scheduling: Each full-time employee and, where possible, each part-time employee, will have 1 free weekend every second weekend or more often unless weekend work is at request of employee. Employees will not be scheduled to work more than 6 consecutive days without day off unless employee requests. Employees will not be required to work more than 2 different shifts in any 7-day period. Seniority payment: All employees who reach 15,000 hours of seniority receive 1-time payment of $100.
