Wage adjustments:
Effective April 1, 2021: 1.1%
Shift premium: $0.55 per hour for hours worked from 3 p.m. onwards for employees on 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. shift, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. shift, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. shift, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. shift, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. shift, and noon to 8 p.m. shift. $0.55 per hour for all hours worked on following shifts: 1 p.m. to 9 p.m., 1 p.m. to 10 p.m., 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., and 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. $0.55 per hour for all hours worked on weekends. No shift premium for hours for which employee receives overtime.
Paid holidays: 11 days plus addition 32 floater hours for full-time employees; 9 days for part-time employees.
Vacations with pay: 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 2 years, 4 weeks after 8 years, 5 weeks after 15 years, 7 weeks after 20 years. Additional 8 hours for each full year of service completed after 23 years; additional 40 hours after 30 years.
Overtime: Time and one-half for authorized hours worked in excess of standards daily or bi-weekly hours and for all hours worked on paid holiday. Can be banked as lieu time up to 16 hours. Full-time staff selected to accompany clients on vacation up to 5 overnights receive between 5 and 21 hours time off or pay as employee chooses.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of extended health care plan with $50 deductible family, $25 single.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for Great West Life No. 9 dental plan or comparable coverage. Up to $3,000 per dependent child for orthodontic coverage.
Vision: Employer pays 100% of benefits for coverage of $200 every 24 months and all expenses for eye exams every 24 months.
Paramedical: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of up to $500 per year for chiropractic and physiotherapy. $500 per calendar year for orthotics.
Sick leave: For full-time employees, 100% of salary for first 4 ill periods up to 5 working days per illness. After 5 working days, 66% of salary for balance of disability up to 15 weeks. For fifth and subsequent ill period will have no benefit for first day of illness and 66% for balance of disability period up to 15 weeks. Employee who is injured or traumatized during working hours and is required to leave for treatment or is sent home will receive payment for remainder of shift without deduction from sick leave.
STD: Employer pays 100% of coverage up to 15 weeks or 75 working days.
LTD: Employer pays 100% of coverage based on length of continuous service.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of coverage of twice employee’s annual income.
Pension: All full-time employees are required as condition of employment to enroll in Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP). Contributions by employee and employer determined by current requirements of plan.
Bereavement leave: 4 paid days for death of parent, spouse, child, sibling. 3 paid days for death of parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, child-in-law. 1 paid day to attend funeral of niece, nephew, aunt, uncle, spouse’s grandparent.
Seniority – recall rights: 18 months.
Call-in pay: Time and one-half for minimum of 3 hours for call-ins.
Probationary period: Full-time employees: 3 months in service departments, 7 months in residential life and developmental services department. May be extended upon mutual agreement. Part-time employees: 520 hours in service departments, 1,120 hours in residential life and development services department.
Safety shoes: $200 per year for developmental centre staff. $500 per year to maintenance department staff towards purchase of safety shoes, safety boots, winter clothing.
Uniforms/clothing: $130 per year to recreation staff for swimwear.
Mileage: $0.44 per kilometre or corporate rate, whichever is higher, when employee uses personal automobile for employer’s business.

Editor’s notes: Leave of absence: Any employee may be granted leave of absence without loss of seniority and without pay for period of time not to exceed 1 month for personal reasons, provided that such leave may be arranged without undue inconvenience to normal operations of employer. Medical certificate: Mandatory for any employee who is absent 3 or more consecutive work days. Employer will reimburse, maximum $15 per year (April to March) for direct costs associated with getting required certificate. Trades certificates: Employer will pay cost of all licensing fees and trade certificates for all employees, maximum $100 per year, if required by employer.
