Renewal agreement: Effective July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2022. Signed on Sept. 25, 2019.
Wage adjustments:
Effective July 1, 2019: 2%

Shift premium: $0.70 per hour for each hour on afternoon shift (4 p.m. to 10:59 p.m.). $0.85 per hour for each hour on night shift (11 p.m. to 6:59 a.m.). $1.20 per hour for dirty work (spray painting; being exposed to raw sewage; installing/removing/cleaning air filters; insulating in confined areas; working in crawl space; performing asbestos removal; work requiring respirator). $1 per hour for reconstruction. $1.25 per hour for construction. $1 per hour when field-safety representative (qualified) is required.
Paid holidays: 12 days. Kitimat 10-month employees will be paid for Canada Day, Labour day holidays and will not be paid for B.C. Day unless they work 1 day in week before and 1 day in week after that holiday.
Vacations with pay: 1.25 days per month, maximum 15 days, to start, 15 days or 6% after 1 year, 20 days or 8% after 5 years, 25 days or 10% after 12 years, 30 days or 12% after 20 years.
Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 35 hours per week, double time for all hours worked after 40 hours per week for technical director Mount Elizabeth Theatre. For all other employees: Time and one-half for all time worked over the regular workday, double time after 3 hours of overtime until beginning of employee’s next scheduled shift. Time and one-half for first 3 hours worked on Saturday, double time thereafter. Double time for all work on Sunday or second day of rest. May be taken as time off in lieu but if not taken, payment will be made in cash on Dec. 31.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for B.C. government medical plan.
Dental: Employer pays 90% of premiums, employee pays 10% of premiums.
Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $200 per family member every 2 years.
Sick leave: 1.5 days per month of service. Unused portions will accrue for employee’s future benefits, maximum 120 days. Employees will receive percentage of unused leave upon termination: 25% after 10 years of service, maximum 30 days; 40% after 15 years of service, maximum 48 days; 60% after 20 years of service, maximum 72 days.
LTD: All regular employees who work 15 hours or more per week will be enrolled in plan as condition of employment.
Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 2 times annual salary.
Pension: All eligible employees will participate in municipal pension plan. Employer will deduct agreed amount from employee’s pay and submit same to employee’s RRSP.
Bereavement leave: 5 days (to be used within 1 year of death) for death of parent, spouse, common-law spouse, foster-children, brother, sister, child, grandparent, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law. 1 day to attend funeral of friend, relative who is not member of immediate family. Additional days may be given, without pay, for travel where necessary or to fulfill cultural obligations.
Call-in pay: Minimum 3 hours’ at overtime rates.
Probationary period: 65 working days (employee will serve only 1 probationary period).
Discipline: Sunset clause is 2 years for any disciplinary report.
Severance: 1 week’s pay for each year of service for employee whose services are terminated because of technological change.
Safety shoes: When employer requires employee to wear safety footwear, employer will reimburse employee 75% of cost of footwear that is CSA-approved or standard acceptable to WorkSafe BC.
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide and clean all protective clothing, coveralls, gloves as required. When regular education assistant takes part in swimming classes, employer will reimburse employee 50% of cost of 1 swimsuit, maximum $50. Only 1 suit per employee per life of agreement. Employer will provide suitable wet weather clothing for employees working in rain or snow. Employer will provide reflective safety vests when employee’s working conditions warrant them.
