Ends lockout of workers that began in June: UFCW
United Food and Commercial Workers union (UFCW) Canada, Local 501 members working as coach drivers at Calèches Québec in Québec City returned to work recently after ratifying a new contract on Aug. 12 reached before a conciliator.
The new collective agreement put an end to a lockout which began on June 18. The horse-and-carriage coach drivers returned to work on Aug. 3, says the union.
The terms of the new contract include a 25-per-cent wage increase. In addition, the per-ride premium for coach rides will increase from $5.50 to $6.50 for 35-minute rides, and from $5.50 to $14 for two-hour rides, says UFCW.
Three members who had been dismissed were also be reinstated as part of the settlement, says the union.
