Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2022 to Dec. 31, 2024. Ratified in March 2021. Signed on Feb. 29, 2021.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Jan. 1, 2023: 1%

Effective Jan. 1, 2024: 2%

Shift premium: $5 per day upon which split shift is worked (break of more than 1 hour when services aren’t required, limited to 8 hours’ work within 12-hour period). $0.75 per hour for all hours assigned to training other employees.

Paid holidays: 12 days including 1 floating day.

Vacations with pay: 1 day per completed month of employment after 30 days of continuous service, 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 5 years, 4 weeks after 10 years, 5 weeks after 20 years, 6 weeks after 30 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked in excess of 8 hours in 1 day or 40 hours in 1 week. Straight-time rate will be paid if excess time is due to application of seniority provisions or changing shifts by mutual agreement. Time and one-half for all hours worked on public holiday.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage for $1,700 per year per employee or dependant.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of $350 every 24 months per employee or dependant.

Paramedical: $450 per year for paramedical services.

Weekly indemnity: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage: first day for accident, first day for hospitalization, fourth day for illness – 15 weeks at 70% of regular weekly earnings paid by insurer; 15 weeks paid by EI; 11 weeks at 50% of regular weekly earnings paid by insurer.

Sick leave: 4 hours for each completed months of continuous employment in previous calendar year, maximum of 40 hours. Not cumulative from year-to-year. Once per calendar year, employer will compensate for loss of 3 days’ wages during 3-day waiting period for employees qualifying for weekly indemnity benefits.

AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums for $45,000 coverage.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums for $45,000 coverage.

Pension: Employer and employee each contribute equivalent of 3.2% of employee’s yearly maximum pensionable earnings and 5% of earnings over yearly maximum pensionable earnings to Fairmont Hotels pension plan. Employer also provides voluntary supplemental retirement savings plan in which it contributes 1% of yearly maximum pensionable earnings and employee contributes at least 1%.

Bereavement leave: 5 paid days during 7-calendar-day period for death of spouse or child. 4 paid days for death of parent, stepparent, sibling, parent-in-law, grandparent, grandchild. Up to 2 days may be delayed for purpose of attending funeral or service later.

Seniority – recall rights: Time equal to length of continuous service, maximum of 2 years.

Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours’ pay at time and one-half.

Probationary period: 360 hours or 60 days of actual work, whichever comes first.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months.

Severance: Employees who are terminated through technological change or operational changes, upon submission of formal resignation, receive 2 weeks if service is between 6 months and 5 years. After 5 years, severance pay in accordance with Employment Standards Act of Ontario. Acceptance of severance pay is deemed resignation and will result in removal from seniority list.

Safety shoes: Reimbursement up to $110 every 2 years for employees in maintenance department, culinary department, stewarding department, banquet houseperson, and receiver/storekeeper who are required to wear safety or non-slip shoes and for doorperson/valets for winter boots.

Uniforms/clothing: Employees required to wear uniforms will have them supplied by employer free of charge, along with necessary valet and laundry service. Hat, coat, outer garments for employees in culinary department will be supplied by employer free of charge.

Editor’s notes: Temporary assignment pay: Employee temporarily assigned to higher-rated position for 1 hour or more in any day will receive higher rate during temporary assignment. Employee temporarily assigned to lower-rated position will not have rate reduced. Escort for female employees: Upon request from female employees whose shifts terminate after midnight, employer will provide escort to parking lots within 1 block from hotel. Hearing aids: $500 every 4 years.
