Renewal agreement: Effective March 1, 2023 to Feb. 28, 2026. Signed on March 2, 2023.
Wage adjustments:
Effective March 1, 2023: $1,500 ratification bonus (in lieu of all retro activity prior to March 1, 2023 including wage recovery adjustments from 2017 to 2020 collective agreement)
Effective March 1, 2024: $0.50 per hour
Effective March 1, 2025: $0.75 per hour
Shift premium: $0.25 per hour for first-aid certificate holders. $1.50 per hour to employees who work designed nightshift.
Paid holidays: 12 days.
Vacations with pay: 4% to start, greater of 80 hours or 4% after 1 year, greater of 120 hours or 6% after 4 years, greater of 160 hours or 8% after 8 years, greater of 200 hours or 10% after 17 years.
Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked after 8 hours per day; double time after 10 hours in 1 day. Double time for work on Sunday, provided employee has not refused to work on Saturday when scheduled or requested.
Dental: Basic treatment: 80% covered, maximum $2,000 per year. Orthodontic treatment: 50% covered, $5,000 lifetime maximum each, available only for plan members, spouses and children ages 6 to 18. Accidental dental injury treatment: 100% covered, maximum $2,000 per accident. 50% reimbursement for major restorative services, combined maximum $2,000 per year.
STD: Coverage of 66.67% of weekly earnings, maximum $850 per week, maximum 26 weeks.
LTD: Coverage of 60% of monthly earnings, maximum $2,500 per month, after 26 weeks.
Life insurance: Coverage of $45,000.
Pension: Employer will contribute $1.75 per hour, maximum 40 hours per week, into Steelworkers pension benefit plan.
Bereavement leave: 4 days for death in immediate family (father, father-in-law, mother, mother-in-law, legal spouse, son, daughter, brother, sister of employee, son-in-law, daughter-in-law).
Seniority – recall rights: 12 months after layoffs or absences due to sickness or accident not resulting from employment; 18 months for layoff for lack of work.
Probationary period: 90 calendar days from employee’s most recent starting date.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for any recorded discipline.
Safety shoes: $225 per year (previously $175 per year) for safety boots. Employee’s boots damaged due to wear at work, and deemed unsafe by employer, will be replaced, maximum $225 in 1 year (previously $175 in 1 year).
Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, respirators (as required), winterwear (as required). Employer will provide winter-rated coveralls and winter-rated safety boots to outside yard workers, truck drivers, maintenance employees only. Employer will provide for other employees assigned outside work ability to utilize one of 2 sets of winter-rated coveralls for temporary use.

Editor’s notes: Hearing test: Once every 24 months each employee will be given 1 complete hearing test at employer’s expense. Apprenticeship allowance: $150 for each week of absence to attend apprenticeship courses if employee successfully completes apprenticeship courses. $1,000 to employee (minimum 5 years of service) who successfully challenges any apprenticeship course exam after being nominated by employer and returns to work for employer. Humanity fund: Employer will deduct $20 from wages of each employee to USW charitable fund.
