Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2023. Signed on May 23, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Jan. 1, 2019: 2.5%

Effective Jan. 1, 2020: 2.5%

Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 2%

Effective Jan. 1, 2022: 2%

Effective Jan. 1, 2023: 2%

Shift premium: 10% when crew leader or union supervisor relieves exempt supervisor. $1.23 per hour (previously $1.21 per hour) for hours worked on scheduled shifts beyond normal workday. $0.75 per hour for level 2 first-aid attendants; $0.25 per hour for level 2 intermediate first-aid attendants. $0.75 per hour for employees now holding designated first-aid positions with valid industrial first-aid ticket.

Paid holidays: 12 days.

Vacations with pay: 1.5 days for each month of service to start, 15 days after 10 months, 20 days after 8 years, 25 days after 16 years, 26 days after 21 years, 27 days after 22 years, 28 days after 23 years, 29 days after 24 years, 30 days after 25 years. 5 additional days (1-time allotment) on 30th anniversary; 5 additional days (1-time allotment) for every 5-year increment after 30 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for time worked outside normal workday; double time after 2 hours of overtime. Employees may consider paid time off in lieu of worked overtime. Unused banked time will be paid out once yearly at time to be determined by employer. Double time for employees required to work during promised 32 hours free for employees assigned to new workweek with change in days of rest.

Vision: $300 every 2 years.

Paramedical: Combined $1,000 per year.

Sick leave: 1.5 days for every month of service. May be accrued, maximum 150 days. Employee having accrued health leave will, upon retirement on pension plan or death, receive salary grant of 80% of accrued health leave, maximum 120 days.

Life insurance: Coverage of 1.5 times employee’s annual salary, minimum $12,000.

Bereavement leave: 3 days’ for death of close relative in family (wife, husband, son, daughter, mother, father, sister, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, grandparents, grandchildren, stepchildren, stepparents, foster-parents, foster-children, common-law spouse, same-sex partner). One half-day to attend funeral as pallbearer. If additional leave is required, employee may use up to 3 days per year from their sick-leave bank; should more than 6 days total be required for leave, residual amount may be claimed in following year, maximum 3 days per year.

Seniority – recall rights: 12 months after absence due to sickness, accident, leave of absence approved by employer, transfer to non-bargaining-unit position, layoffs.

Call-in pay: Minimum 3 hours of pay at overtime rates.

Probationary period: 4 months for employees selected for crew leader and union supervisory positions; 6 months for external hires for these positions and newly hired and existing employees as apprentices; 30 worked days for all other positions.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 3 years for disciplinary letters.

Severance: 1 week’s pay for each year of seniority, maximum 10 weeks’ pay for employees who are displaced by contracting-out of job.

Tool allowance: $1,000, paid quarterly, for mechanic/welders who use own tools.

Editor’s notes: Hearing aids: $800 every 5 years; $800 every 2 years for dependants younger than 18. Employee parking: Employer will provide parking space free of charge for city hall and parks department employees in area at Riverside Park designated for parking by permit provided that space will be available only as long as designated area is not required for park purposes.
