Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2023. Signed on March 8, 2021.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Jan. 1, 2019: 2%

Effective Jan. 1, 2020: 2%

Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 2%

Effective Jan. 1, 2022: 2%

Effective Jan. 1, 2023: 2.5%

Shift premium: Time and one-half for all hours worked on Sunday. $2.95 per hour (previously $2.80 per hour) for all hours worked in bi-annual shutdown, relating to cleaning, maintenance of tanks that hold raw sewage. Effective 2023: $3.10 per hour. $0.31 per hour for hours worked between 5 p.m. and midnight. $0.50 per hour for hours worked between midnight and 8 a.m. $0.25 per hour, provided lunch break exceeds one-half hour (outside staff) and 1 hour (inside staff), for split shifts. $0.35 per hour for continuously scheduled midnight shift work for recreation facility maintenance workers.

Paid holidays: 12 days.

Vacations with pay: 2 weeks after 6 months, 3 weeks after 2 years, 4 weeks after 6 years, 5 weeks after 11 years, 6 weeks after 16 years, 7 weeks after 21 years, 8 weeks after 26 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for work after 7 or 8 hours in 1 day or 35 or 40 hours in 1 week. Double time after 3 hours of overtime. Double time for hours worked on employee’s day of rest. Double time for hours worked after 70 or 80 hours per 2-week period. Employee may elect to take time off in lieu of overtime pay each time overtime occurs. Time not used will be paid out by June 30 of each year.

Meal allowance: $17 per meal break (previously $12 per meal break), plus paid half hour to obtain meal, for every 3 hours of overtime worked.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

STD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 70% wage replacement (employer will top up wages to 100%), maximum 26 weeks.

LTD: Employer pays 100% of premiums for coverage of 70% of earnings, maximum $6,500 per month (previously $5,700 per month).

AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Life insurance: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Pension: Employees who are eligible will participate in Municipal Pension Plan. $1,400, less statutory deductions, retirement bonus for full-time employees who retire on pension plan after 20 years of service and 67 years old or younger.

Bereavement leave: Minimum 3 days for death of spouse (including same-sex partners), parent, grandparent, guardian, grandchild, sibling, child, niece, nephew, any person who lives with employee as member of employee’s family, any other person considered relative pursuant to Employment Standards Act of B.C. 1 day off, with pay, per year to attend funeral of family member or fellow union member. Full-time employees may be given one-half day leave, with pay, to attend funeral of member of union as pallbearer. Full-time employees may be given one-half day leave, with pay, to attend funeral of employee, maximum 2 employees.

Seniority – recall rights: 6 months for employee who is transferred or promoted to position outside bargaining unit with employer.

Call-in pay: Minimum 2 hours or pay when called to work outside of regular working hours or on days of rest. When employee commences work, minimum of 4 hours of pay will be given. Time may be banked for use as time off.

Probationary period: 6 calendar months from date of hire; 24 months for full-time employees who are laid off.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months for any record of dissatisfaction of employee.

Severance: 2 week’s pay after 1 year of service; 3 week’s pay after 3 years of service; 1 additional week’s pay for each year after 3 years of service, maximum 8 week’s pay.

Safety shoes: Employer will reimburse employee for 55% of cost of 1 pair of safety footwear, rubber boots, raingear, per year.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide $100 bathing suit allowance each year to aquatics staff.

Editor’s notes: Standby: 4 hours’ pay per day, at employee’s regular rate, for standby during non-working days or 1 hour of pay per day, at employee’s regular rate, for standby on day employee has worked full shift. RCMP guards will be paid 2 hours’ regular pay per scheduled shift while on standby. Hours may be banked at employee’s option for use as paid time off. Discretionary leave: All employees may use 4 discretionary days per year, with pay, for challenging life circumstances requiring time off (leave may be taken in one-half hour increments).
