Retirees will staff weekend shifts
In order to allow the skilled employees who repair engines and rail cars for Canadian National Railway to have more weekends off work, the most recent collective agreement will see retirees recruited to work Saturday-Sunday shifts. As well, the employees in a terminal may choose to adopt different shift patterns. These changes are designed to both improve the quality of life for employees and to aid in retention of skilled trades.
The CN Trades Modernization program has been revised to train all trades to the standards for provincial registration. This will allow them more options in the event of permanent layoff.
