Renewal agreement: Effective June 2, 2018 to April 30, 2022. Signed on June 18, 2018.

Shift premium: 10% per hour (previously $3.85 per hour) for working second shift, afternoon shift; third shift, graveyard shift (shifts must be at least 2 consecutive nights duration; if shift is only 1 evening or night, applicable overtime premium will be paid). Double time for all second, third shifts performed between 8 a.m. Saturday and regular starting time on Monday; plus additional 1 hour at regular straight-time rate will be paid.

Paid holidays: 11 days (employer will pay double time for all work on those days); in lieu of paid statutory and government proclaimed holidays, employer will pay 4.5% of total base rate plus vacation pay earnings of 6%.

Vacations with pay: 3 weeks. Employee working on northern projects will be entitled to 3 weeks of vacation after employee has completed 2 approved tours of duty.

Overtime: Time and one-half for first 2 hours of overtime after 8 hours per day, double time thereafter. Time and one-half for first 8 hours of overtime on Saturday, double time thereafter. Double time for all overtime on Sunday.

Meal allowance: Employer will supply hot meal if more than 2 hours of overtime are worked. Additional meal every 4 more hours thereafter. Employee will be given $20 if employee elects not to take hot meal.

Medical benefits: Employee contributes $1.03 per hour (previously $1.23 per hour), employer contributes $0.91 per hour (previously $0.71 per hour) to health and welfare fund.

Pension: Employer contributes $6.61 per hour to Local 254 pension fund.

Call-in pay: Minimum 2 hours’ at double time for industrial work (minimum 1 hour at double time for residential, commercial calls).

Safety shoes: Employer will contribute 100% of cost of metatarsal safety boots.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will furnish proper protective equipment including coveralls when employees work in hazardous or especially dirty areas (asbestos, fiberglass). When employees do grinding, welding, other work requiring protective devices, all protective gear will be supplied by employer, including general work gloves. Welders’ jackets will be made available for temporary issue to welders when engaged on work requiring additional protection such as, arc air gouging, overhead welding. Welders’ helmets, goggles, protective leather sleeves, welding gloves or mitts (but not welders’ leather jacket, pants) will be included as safety equipment, safety clothing. Employees who work in wet locations (crawl spaces) or work outdoors in inclement weather, will be issued with sanitized rubber boots, rain gear by employer. 2 pairs of coveralls will be supplied to all employees who work in area that is extremely dirty.

Mileage: $0.546 per kilometre for employees who work outside boundaries of Winnipeg perimeter highway or limits of any other city or town in Manitoba and returning daily will be on jobsite at regular starting time and work full shift (employer may provide suitable transportation to and from job site in lieu of automobile expense).

Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 2.5% increase):

Journeyman: $40.84 rising 2 steps to $41.86

Apprentice

Fifth-year (93.5%): $38.19 rising 2 steps to $39.14

Fourth-year (80%): $32.67 rising 2 steps to $33.49

Third-year (70%): $28.59 rising 2 steps to $29.30

Second-year (60%): $24.50 rising 2 steps to $25.12

First-year (50%): $20.42 rising 2 steps to $20.93

Plumber/steam-worker: $16.34 rising 2 steps to $16.74

Editor’s notes: Training fund: Employee contributes $0.17 per hour, employer contributes $0.51 per hour (previously $0.41 per hour) to training fund. Industrial promotion: Employer contributes $0.44 per hour to promotion fund. Out-of-town work: On out-of-town work employer will furnish first-class room and board for employees. For work within 104 kilometres, employer will reimburse employee lesser of commuting allowance and travel time, maximum $84.25 per day worked; for work between 104 kilometres and 225 kilometres, employer will reimburse employee lesser of commuting allowance and travel time, maximum $141.25 per day worked; for work further than 225 kilometres, employer will reimburse employee lesser of commuting allowance and travel time, maximum $163 per day worked. H2HC contributions: Employee, employer will each contribute $0.01 per hour worked to fund Helmets to Hardhats Canada (H2HC) program on each payroll period.
