Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2019 to Dec. 31, 2021. Ratified in November 2019. Signed on Jan. 1, 2019.

Wage adjustments:

Effective Jan. 1, 2019: 1.5%

Effective Jan. 1, 2020: 1.5%

Effective Jan. 1, 2021: 1.5%

Shift premium: $0.80 per hour (previously $0.70 per hour) for evening shift (3 p.m. to 11 p.m.). $0.90 per hour (previously $0.75 per hour) for night shift (11 p.m. to 7 a.m.). 10% of hourly rate for split shift. $1.75 for all hours worked assuming position of registered nurse whenever registered nurse is not available in building (for registered practical nurses).

Paid holidays: 12 days.

Vacations with pay: 1 week after 6 months, 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 2 years, 4 weeks after 8 years, 5 weeks after 14 years, 6 weeks after 20 years, 7 weeks after 25 years, 8 weeks after 30 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for hours in excess of 8 on workday and any hours on regularly scheduled day off.

Meal allowance: Employees required to work more than 2 hours beyond regular hours will be provided with meal by employer.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums for Ontario Health Insurance Plan, employer Extended Health Care Plan.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums for dental-care plan.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums for vision-care plan. $325 every 2 years; $100 once every 2 years for eye examinations.

Sick leave: 1.5 days for every month of service, maximum 18 days accumulated per year. Unpaid sick leave granted to employees who don’t qualify for paid sick leave or at termination of paid period.

Pension: O.M.E.R.S. Pension Plan.

Bereavement leave: 4 consecutive scheduled paid working days for funeral of spouse, common-law spouse, same-sex partner, child, parent. 3 consecutive scheduled paid working days for funeral of sibling, grandparent, grandchild, parent-in-law, sibling-in-law, child-in-law. 1 scheduled paid working day for funeral of aunt, uncle, niece, nephew. Maximum 4 additional paid days for travel if funeral is outside of Kenora. One-half day to attend funeral as pallbearer or mourner.

Seniority – recall rights: 24 months for layoffs; 24 hours for resignations.

Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours at overtime rates for emergency call-in outside regular working hours.

Probationary period: 60 tours or shifts for full-time hires; 45 tours for part-time hires.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for adverse reports.

Safety shoes: $100 per year for approved shoes, after 346 hours of service.

Uniforms/clothing: $100 per year for purchase of uniform approved by employer. Employer provides, maintains, and launders all required uniforms. Employer supplied rubber boots, gloves and hairnets as required.

Sample rates of hourly pay (current, after 1.5% increase):

Recreation/therapy lead, cook: $23.40 rising 4 levels to $27.53

Recreation/therapy aide, adult day care aide: $19.28 rising 4 levels to $22.68

Dietary aide/housekeeper, home support housekeeper, home maintenance worker: $18.72 rising 4 levels to $22.02

Laundry wash: $20.61 rising 4 levels to $24.25

Laundry housekeeper: $18.73 rising 4 levels to $22.04

RPN: $24.39 rising 4 levels to $25.82

PSW: $19.64 rising 4 levels to $23.10

Supportive-housing PSW: $19.39 rising 4 levels to $22.81

Editor’s notes: Home closing: At least 60 days’ written notice to union and affected employees of proposed layoff or elimination of position. Recall in different classification: Employee recalled to different classification can return to position held prior to layoff should there become vacancy within 12 months. Reporting pay: At least 6 hours’ work or pay for reporting for work, except when work isn’t available due to conditions beyond control of employer. Mandatory training: As condition of employment, employees who are required to do mandatory training will be paid for all time spent doing required training.
