Renewal agreement: Effective June 9, 2022 to March 31, 2026. Signed on June 7, 2022.
Effective April 1, 2023: % wage increase negotiated in industry agreement between BCMEA (BC Maritime Employers Association) and ILWU-Canada
Effective April 1, 2024: % wage increase negotiated in industry agreement between BCMEA and ILWU-Canada
Effective April 1, 2025: % wage increase negotiated in industry agreement between BCMEA and ILWU-Canada
Paid holidays: 13 days.
Vacations with pay: 3 weeks to start, 4 weeks after 3 years, 5 weeks after 11 years, 6 weeks after 20 years.
Overtime: Time and one-half for all time worked after 10 hours in 1 day or 40 hours in 1 week; double time after 12 hours in 1 day or 48 hours in 1 week.
Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
STD: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
LTD: Employee pays 100% of premiums.
AD&D: Employer pays 100% of premiums.
Life insurance: Employee pays 100% of premiums.
Pension: Employees will contribute 4%, employer will contribute 6% to DC plan.
Bereavement leave: 10 days (3 days paid after 3 months of service; rest unpaid) for death in immediate family (spouse or common-law partner; father and mother and spouse or common-law partner of father or mother; children and children of spouse or common-law partner; grandchildren; brothers and sisters; grandfather and grandmother of employee; father and mother of spouse or common-law partner of employee and spouse or common-law partner of father or mother; any relative of employee who resides with employee). Additional 2 days paid if employee must travel more than 500 kilometres from employee’s residence.
Seniority – recall rights: 12 months after layoffs.
Call-in pay: Time and one-half for time worked, minimum 4-hour guarantee.
Probationary period: At least 90 calendar days or having actually worked for employer for at least 60 days.
Discipline: Sunset clause is 24 months after any discipline was issued.
Severance: 1 week per year of service, maximum 26 weeks.
Safety shoes: Employer will provide employees $250 every second January for safety boots or safety shoes (CSA-approved), if such footwear is required.
Sample rates of hourly pay (current):
IT field technicians: $42.40
Signing bonus: Within 14 days of ratification, employer will pay each field technician $2,500
Editor’s notes: On call: Employees will be on call on rotational basis from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. If employee answers phone call or performs work while on call remotely, employee will receive pay at time and one-half for time worked, minimum 2-hour guarantee; if employee attends worksite, employee will be paid at time and one-half for time worked, minimum 4-hour guarantee. Personal leave: 5 days per year. Meal expenses: Employees who travel on employer business, will receive meal allowances while away: $25 for breakfast; $25 for lunch; $30 for dinner.
