Renewal agreement: Effective Jan. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2022. Signed on Jan. 1, 2020.

Shift premium: $1.50 (previously $1) over regular general forepersons and forepersons rates (for all hours worked) for general forepersons and forepersons who have achieved status of industrial construction crew supervisor designation from Alberta apprenticeship industry training. $1 per hour above short-term maintenance journeyperson rate for period of shutdown (on unit shutdown, which is not major plant shutdown) for long-term employees who are required to supervise crew comprised of more than 50% short-term maintenance employees. If employee is not able to take lunch break, employee will be paid at applicable overtime rates for missed break (when hour before and hour following missed break are at straight time, time and one-half will be paid for missed break). Additional one-half hour, at straight-time rate, for employee who works through scheduled noon lunch period and lunch period provided falls beyond staggered 1-hour allowance. $3.50 per hour (previously $3 per hour) worked for employees working afternoon shift defined as beginning at 8 a.m. and before 9 p.m. or midnight shift defined as beginning between 9 pm. and 2 a.m. $3.50 per hour (previously $3 per hour) for all straight-time hours worked on compressed workweek night shifts. First shift at time and one-half for employee not given 24 hours advance notice prior to start of new shift. 2 hours of pay to carry out move (if done outside work hours) should employee residing in camp accommodation be requested by employer to another room or camp.

Paid holidays: 11 days.  

Vacations with pay: 6% to start, 7% after 3 years, 8% after 7 years, 9% after 10 years, 10% after 12 years.  

Overtime: Time and one-half for first 12 hours of work on scheduled days off; double time thereafter.  

Meal allowance: Employer will provide 1 meal for second meal break when employee works overtime and works more than 10 hours (subsequent meals will also be provided as near regular 4-hour intervals as possible).

Medical benefits: Employer contributes $3.35 per hour (Provincial Alberta Boilermakers, Local, 146). Employer contributes $1.60 per hour (Provincial Alberta Carpenters, Local, 1325).

Pension: Employer contributes $6 per hour (Provincial Alberta Boilermakers, Local, 146). Employer contributes $6.60 per hour (Provincial Alberta Carpenters, Local, 1325).

Bereavement leave: 3 days (after 3 years of service) for death in immediate family (spouse, child, parent, parent-in-law, grandparent, sibling).  

Call-in pay: Minimum 2 hours of pay at double time; time and one-half for work after 2 hours.  

Safety shoes: $150 inclusive of GST if employee works in areas where abnormal wear to approved footwear is incurred and footwear will be replaced by employer.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will issue up to 2 pairs of coveralls to long-term employees each 12 months.

Editor’s notes: Training: Employees who attend specific technical training courses associated with maintenance duties which are organized by employer beyond their normal hours of work or on Saturdays, Sundays or earned days off, will be paid at straight-time rates. Travel costs: $224 each way (previously $220 each way) for return airfare between Edmonton and Ft. McMurray plus approved ground transportation to site. Moving costs: $1,000 lump sum to offset cost to relocate employee’s family to Fort McMurray. Employer will also reimburse cost for relocating employee’s furniture and personal belongings, maximum 5,000 lbs from Edmonton to Fort McMurray. Employer will pay contract towing costs from Edmonton to Fort McMurray, maximum $650. Administration fund: Employer will contribute $0.10 per hour worked to General Presidents’ Maintenance Industry Administration Fund. Qualifying tests: $175 payment (previously $150 payment) for each specialty ticket which employer requires them to successfully test for or re-qualify as specialty welders, with greater than 2 years of service.
