Renewal agreement: Effective April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2021. Signed on April 1, 2018.

Shift premium: $0.75 per hour in year 1 ($0.85 per hour in year 2; $0.90 per hour in year 3 of collective agreement) for work on afternoon shifts. $1 per hour for work on night shifts.

Paid holidays: 10 days.

Vacations with pay: 1 day per month, maximum 10 days, or 4% to start, 2 weeks or 4% after 1 year, 3 weeks or 6% after 5 years, 4 weeks or 8% after 10 years, 4 weeks plus 1 day or 8.4% after 16 years, 4 weeks plus 2 days or 8.8% after 17 years, 4 weeks or 9.2% after 18 years, 4 weeks or 4 days or 9.6% after 19 years, 5 weeks or 10% after 20 years, 6 weeks or 12% after 25 years.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all work after 8 hours per day or on Saturdays and Sundays.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 75% of premiums, employee pays 25% of premiums.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Vision: Employer pays 75% of premiums, employee pays 25% of premiums for coverage of $250 every 24 months.

Weekly indemnity: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Sick leave: 3 shifts per year plus additional 2 shifts (can be used as sick leave or personal leave days provided days are pre-booked 24 hours in advance) per year.

AD&D: Employees contribute $9 per month for coverage of 2 times annual salary.

Life insurance: Employees contribute $9 per month for coverage of 2 times annual salary.

Pension: Employees will be entitled to participate in employer’s group registered retirement savings plan (RRSP). Employer will match employee’s RRSP contribution, maximum 3% of earnings, plus 50% of next 3% of earnings. Maximum contribution is 4.5% of earnings when employee contributes 6% of earnings to RRSP.

Bereavement leave: 5 days for death of spouse, father, mother, sister, brother, son, daughter. 3 days for death of grandfather, grandmother, grandchildren, mother-in-law, father-in-law.

Seniority – recall rights: 12 months to start; 18 months after 5 years of service.

Call-in pay: Minimum 4 hours at time and one-half, provided employee is willing to perform any work assigned to employee.

Probationary period: 60 working days within 6-month period.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 12 months for all notices of disciplinary nature.

Severance: 1.5 weeks (7.5 days) of pay for every year of service for permanent layoffs; severance based on Employment Standards Act 2000 to start, 2 weeks for every year of service for partial or full closure of facility, or if sale is approved, and results in full or partial closure of facility.

Safety shoes: $170 per year (previously $160 per year) for full-time, part-time employees; $170 (previously $160 twice yearly) twice yearly for drivers, driver-helpers.

Uniforms/clothing: Employer will provide protective clothing, including back belts, gloves, other devices, (excluding safety shoes) necessary to protect all employees from injuries arising from employment. Employer will provide $30 per month (previously $20 per month) uniform-cleaning allowance for drivers, driver’s helpers, maintenance technicians, maintenance mechanics, maintenance helpers, millwrights, apprentices.

Editor’s notes: Employee training: Employer will provide payment of wages, maximum 40 days each year (including time spent on JHSC certification (Joint Health and Safety Committee) training), on aggregate basis employees selected by union for health, safety, WSIB training. Humanity fund: Employer will provide one-time per year, $25 deduction from wages of all employees (on last pay in January of each year) to USW humanity fund. Educational fund: Employer will provide $25 per employees to STAC (Steelworkers Toronto Area Council) Services Fund and $125 per employee to USW educational fund. Employer will also donate $3,000 to educational fund. Lifeline Canada Foundation: Employer will contribute $1,500 per year to Lifeline Canada Foundation.
