Renewal agreement: Effective Feb. 1, 2019 to Jan. 31, 2023. Ratified on Dec. 19, 2018. Signed on May 15, 2019.

Shift premium: Employee will be paid applicable overtime rate for first full shift worked on new schedule for employees whose scheduled hours are changed without 7 days’ prior notice in advance of starting time of change. $2.20 per hour (previously $2 per hour) for all hours worked, including overtime hours, between 4 p.m. and 8 a.m. $2.20 per hour for all hours worked, including overtime hours, on Saturday or Sunday.

Paid holidays: 12 days.

Vacations with pay: 1.25 days per month to start, 1 2/3 days per month after 6 years, 2 1/12 days per month after 16 years, 2.5 days per month after 26 years; 11 shifts per year to start, 14 shifts per year after 6 years, 18 shifts per year after 16 years, 21 shifts per year after 26 years for firefighters.

Overtime: Time and one-half for all hours worked in excess of employee’s normal scheduled daily hours; for all hours worked on first day of rest. Employee who reports for work on day of rest will be compensated for time actually worked or minimum of 3 hours of pay at applicable overtime rate, whichever is greater. Double time for work on scheduled day of work or first day of rest, after period of overtime equal to normal hours; second or subsequent day of rest, provided days of rest are consecutive, except when separated by designated paid holiday; employee will continue to be compensated at double time for all hours worked until employee is given period of rest of at least 8 hours. May be taken as time off, maximum 10 days (7 shifts for duty managers, firefighters); must be used by Dec. 31 or will be paid for in cash. Maximum 5 days (3 shifts for duty managers, firefighters) may be carried over to next year.

Meal allowance: $14 (previously $13.50) — except where free meal is provided or when employee is being compensated on other basis — for employee who works 3 or more hours of overtime. Additional meal or compensation for each subsequent 4-hour period of overtime.

Medical benefits: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Dental: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Vision: Employer pays 100% of premiums.

Sick leave: 11/12 of shift per month for employee in firefighter classification; 1.25 days per month for all other employees; 1/6 of day per month for shift workers.

LTD: Employer pays 85% of premiums, employee pays 15% of premiums.

AD&D: Employee pays 100% of premiums.

Life insurance: Employee will pays $0.15 per $1,000 of coverage and employer pays balance of premium cost.

Pension: Halifax International Airport Pension Plan. Employees will contribute 7%, employer contributes 7% (previously 5% and 5%).

Bereavement leave: 4 days for death in immediate family (father, mother, stepfather, stepmother, foster-parent, brother, sister, spouse, fiancé(e), child, child of spouse, stepchild, ward of employee, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparent, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, relative permanently residing in employee’s household). Additional 3 days if need for travel related to death. 1 day to attend funeral as pallbearer or mourner.

Seniority – recall rights: 1 year for layoffs.

Call-in pay: Greater of 3 hours’ pay at applicable overtime for each call-in maximum 8 hours’ of pay per 8-hour period or for all time worked, at applicable rate of overtime.

Probationary period: 12 months, but not less than 6 months, which is tied to completion of certification process for newly hired firefighters; 6-month probationary period for all other newly hired employees.

Discipline: Sunset clause is 18 months for any document or written statement related to disciplinary action.

Severance: 2 weeks’ pay for first year of employment subsequent to Feb. 1, 2000; 1 week’s pay for each additional year of continuous for first layoff. 1 week’s pay for each year of employment on second or subsequent layoff.

Safety shoes: $175 plus HST per year or $350 plus HST every 2 years for safety footwear or black dress safety shoes.

Uniforms/clothing: Rainwear (hooded coats, pants and boots) will be provided as required.

Editor’s notes: Standby: One-half hour pay for each 4 consecutive hour period or portion thereof that employee is on standby. Resignation: Upon resignation, and with 10 or more years of continuous employment subsequent to Feb. 1, 2000, employee will be given one-half week’s pay for each year of employment maximum 26 years with maximum benefit of 13 weeks’ pay. Bilingual allowance: $800 for employees who occupy bilingual position and who can demonstrate proficiency. Long-service pay: For firefighters only, employer will pay yearly lump-sum payment: $510 for 5 to 9 years of service; $675 for 10 to 14 years of service; $870 for 15 to 19 years of service; $1,065 for 20 to 24 years of service; $1,260 for 25 to 29 years of service; $1,455 for 30 years or more years of service. Humanities fund: Local union will contribute $0.01 per hour worked for each bargaining unit member; employer will contribute $0.02 per hour worked for each bargaining unit member to humanities fund.
